Verdant is a local-first plant care journal for iOS and Android. This policy explains what stays on your device, what happens when you turn on optional cloud sync, what Premium AI sends, and what we never do.
Data stored on your device
By default, everything lives locally in the app’s storage:
- Plant profiles, species, care intervals, rooms, and notes
- Photos you add (copied into the app’s own storage on your device)
- Care logs, reminders, streaks, and insights
- Family household members and your settings
If you never sign in, this data never leaves your phone.
Optional cloud sync
Cloud sync is off by default. When you turn it on and sign in with Apple or Google, Verdant backs up and syncs your plants, care history, and photos so they appear on your other devices.
- Your sign-in provider returns a signed identity token. Verdant’s server verifies it and derives a per-account sync identifier from it. We keep only your provider, email (if shared), and that sync id — never the raw token.
- Your collection and photos are stored on Verdant’s infrastructure (Cloudflare) under that sync id and transferred encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
- Signing out pauses sync on that device; your local data stays. You can stop syncing at any time.
Premium AI (optional)
When you use Premium AI — plant identify, care guide, coach, or collection insights:
- The app sends only the content needed (your text prompt; for photo features, the image) to Verdant’s edge proxy.
- The proxy calls the AI model provider using a server-held key. That key is never placed in the app or on your device, so there is nothing for you to leak.
Please don’t include sensitive personal information in AI prompts that you wouldn’t want processed by an AI provider. AI output is educational and not professional, veterinary, or medical advice.
Purchases
In-app purchases are handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play. We receive entitlement status (whether Premium is active) from the store — we do not receive or store your full payment card details.
Analytics & advertising
Verdant contains no third-party advertising SDKs and does not sell your plant photos or data. If crash or performance tooling is added in a future build, it will be disclosed here first.
Children
Verdant is not directed at children under 13. Please don’t use Premium AI with a child’s personal information.
